YBYB

You’re Beautiful/Your Beautiful (YBYB) challenges the concept of beauty in general and who determines what is and what isn’t. There’s always something people will point out to qualify attractiveness. The message is implied that You ARE beautiful because of the confidence, personality, intelligence, and anything else that YOU have that inspires you to be your best self.

The series came together by merging portraits and short stories about how each participant individually came into their moles, freckles, or vitiligo. The experiences range from being made fun of as kids to grandmothers instilling confidence from God. Ultimately, through photography and storytelling, the goal of YBYB is to foster confidence in people young and old that may not feel represented in beauty ads, magazines, and other media. Hopefully, the images in this series can help someone who needs to see or hear a similar story and know that they too are beautiful.
