Learning From Location Scouting in Downtown Newark
I found myself seeing locations around town that stood out. I kept mental notes to one day go back but I figured it’d be better to just document them here. In this vlog, I head down to Branford Place to capture shots of an old theatre and storefronts, Washington & Market (King Furniture), Campbell St (Alley), and Campbell & Washington (blue bar -Neptune’s Bar n Grill).
Pro Mist Filter Portraits and Black Frame Polaroid Now Shots at BrownMill

I popped up at BownMill to take portraits of people using a Sony A7 with Pro-Mist filters. The first few people to show up got their portraits taken on the Polaroid Now.

Summer Pop-Up Portrait Series 2021
Every so often, stop and look back at the work you’ve done. More specifically, look at how you’ve done it. What sets it apart from the rest and how can you continue to build on it?
I think my niche has not been portraits, but bringing communities out and empowering people through photography for social good, for social justice, for representation, and of course for fun. And we all need a little fun right now.
The Summer is here and we’ve all been waiting to get back outside as safe as possible. To make up for the lost time I’m hosting a free Summer Portrait Pop-Up series between NJ and NYC from July through September.
All are welcome to come out and have your portrait taken. I’ll be posted up in Newark and locations to be announced in NYC every other week. At the beginning of each week, I’ll share a theme for the next pop-up. Follow along with the series on Instagram and at BryonSummers.com
Covid Courts Art Book Promo
This 30 second promo was created to announce the release of photographer Jordan Alexander Henson’s first book. Over the course of 2020 basketball courts across the nation were being dismantled or altered to discourage social interaction during to the COVID19 global pandemic. Jordan took to the courts in his hometown and surrounding areas in Maryland, a place widely known for developing basketball talent. These images capsulate an unprecedented event and showed how a once active setting can quickly turn into monuments to the past.

This Is How Film Photography Made Me A Better Digital Photographer

I learned photography on 35mm cameras when digital cameras were just getting popular. When I moved to NYC I bought a Nikon FE and an EM on eBay after shooting digital for a while and it was a gamechanger. Here are a few things that made me a better overall photographer just from becoming a student of film photography.

Midnight Photos In Brooklyn New York - One Thousand Words [OTW] Photography Show
in OTW, Photography Show
When I couldn't sleep at night I would grab my camera and explore my neighborhood. I was new to NY and Brooklyn looked inviting to the new kid in town especially between 12 and 2 am. Here are a few images from a series I like to call Mad Lurky.
Exploring Glendale Hospital - One Thousand Words [OTW] Photography Show
Exploring an abandoned sanitarium was the last thing on my list to do. Somehow, after avoiding it for almost 30 years, photography presented a reason to walk the halls of the decaying building that used to house people with tuberculosis.
Bobby Shmurda - One Thousand Words
The first images I shot on my Fuji X100s was Bobby Shmurda. It was my first mirrorless camera and I almost missed my shot because I didn't fully charge the 3 batteries it came with! Here's the story behind the 3 photos I was able to capture.
New York Summer Hoops - One Thousand Words Photography Show
The city brings everything to a central spot. It’s all out there on the street ready and available for you to see, buy, or participate in. Basketball culture is deeply rooted in New York along with many other forms of entertainment. In comparison to televised basketball, street ball is a live show in the park. The stage was set in the Ingersoll houses in Fort Greene Brooklyn for Taj Gibson day. Really, an actual hardwood floor was raised above the asphalt courts in the middle of Ingersoll to give back to the community and in celebration, Taj was given the ket to the city.
The Dapper Dancer - One Thousand Words Photography Show
Sometimes you have to show the world before they believe it. Gabe Stone Shayer is one of a handful of black dancers in the American Ballet Theater. He told me how hard it was for a black person to be cast for a prominent role like a prince. He was told that he did not look the part. So he got a little help from the legendary Dapper Dan of Harlem to make him look royal. Gabe would show up to the ABT fall Galla a king.
