Learning From Location Scouting in Downtown Newark

I found myself seeing locations around town that stood out. I kept mental notes to one day go back but I figured it’d be better to just document them here. In this vlog, I head down to Branford Place to capture shots of an old theatre and storefronts, Washington & Market (King Furniture), Campbell St (Alley), and Campbell & Washington (blue bar -Neptune’s Bar n Grill).

Over the course of 2020 basketball courts across the nation were being dismantled or altered to discourage social interaction during to the COVID19 global pandemic. New York Summer Hoops - One Thousand Words Photography Show

The city brings everything to a central spot. It’s all out there on the street ready and available for you to see, buy, or participate in. Basketball culture is deeply rooted in New York along with many other forms of entertainment. In comparison to televised basketball, street ball is a live show in the park. The stage was set in the Ingersoll houses in Fort Greene Brooklyn for Taj Gibson day. Really, an actual hardwood floor was raised above the asphalt courts in the middle of Ingersoll to give back to the community and in celebration, Taj was given the ket to the city.

The Dapper Dancer - One Thousand Words Photography Show

Sometimes you have to show the world before they believe it. Gabe Stone Shayer is one of a handful of black dancers in the American Ballet Theater. He told me how hard it was for a black person to be cast for a prominent role like a prince. He was told that he did not look the part. So he got a little help from the legendary Dapper Dan of Harlem to make him look royal. Gabe would show up to the ABT fall Galla a king.
