PASTEL PRINTS

SERIES INSPIRATION

In my youth, my works were mostly drawings. I was doodling on everything from church programs to brown paper bags we used to cover school textbooks. Eventually, charcoal and pastel would become my medium of choice. This was due to the fluidity and time it took to complete each piece. I could spread colors across a sheet of paper, blend them, or hold the pastel like a pencil and draw. There is also something playful about pastels that helps to channel nostalgia.

The scenes and people referenced in this collection of work are pulled from my childhood and old family photos. In the moment your experiences might feel unique but they’re mostly likely relatable to people you’ve never even met before. Do you remember going to family reunions, and cookouts, and playing with your favorite cousins? What was life like before digital photography? How did it make you feel? Who took all the family photos and the candid shots in the yard? You might not have the photos anymore but the memories are still there.
